What makes a luxurious life?
Coco Chanel once famously said:
"Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury"
So, taking this thought further, many comfortable things must be considered luxurious, things which bring joy, are delicious or exquisite. But never is this tied to money exclusively. You can have the most expensive dinner at a fancy restaurant, but it might not come close to a simple picnic you enjoy with your friends. You might surround yourself with expensive things, but without the luxury of time to pause and enjoy them, these possessions are hollow and meaningless.
True luxury does not happen by accident, and it takes time to come to fruition. It does not need pomp and large pricetags to attract attention. Its quality, when experienced, will speak for itself. You enjoy it without a need for approval, but merely for the pleasures of self-satisfaction and achievement. Again, it is not dependant on the money, but rather on the mindset. Of course, with bigger budgets, better quality can be bought. But only with the knowledge on what good quality actually is, it can then be chosen.
It´s all in the mindset
Like everything, developing the mindset takes time to master. And this kind of mastery grows from small, habits, repeated over and over until they become second nature. So if you want to change your life in a big way, live mindfully and with intention, there is only one way to do it: you have to integrate the small improvements gradually. That way, there is a fundament that is being built, a solid ground for your dream life to be built upon. Because when we choose to listen to what our lives are trying to tell us — about what works, what does not, and why - we will find ourselves living simply luxuriously each and every day in small and large ways.
Here we have six takes on what makes life enjoyable and luxurious for us:

1. Start your day right
Imagine a world where you can´t wait to get out of your cozy bed to finally start your day. Where you look forward to whatever life has to offer for the rest of the day. Where you feel ready and energized, not rushed or stressed out when you leave your home to start the working day. A morning routine can do that for you. Even though it might sound ludicrous to wake up even earlier as you do now, you will benefit immensely from integrating some little morning rituals into your daily routine. Be it preparing a great cup of coffee, reading one page of the book you were meaning to read for so long, doing a short walk or little exercise: your life will get better, promise!

2. Eat well to thrive
Eating is one of the simplest pleasures in life. And there is so much of uncertainty around the topic. We do have to eat, people. But what to eat is being debated over and over. Keeping thins in moderation seems to be a good strategy. Aside from being a simple pleasure, food is a necessity for our survival. So true luxury will combine the necessary with the pleasurable. Make your meals occasions to enjoy the tastes and textures, so you will not only fill your body, but also your mind.
3. Celebrate the small, kind acts towards yourself

Because you´re worth it. You deserve to take the time to put a nice mask on your face and to relax, for example. Or to put on that beautiful morning robe you splurged on, and not begin yet another day in the same old sweatpants you just can´t throw out for some reason. It´s the small kindness you bring towards yourself that makes the difference in your life, so this simple little sentence is worth repeating: Because you´re worth it!
4. Surround yourself with the things you truly love
Getting rid of the clutter has almost therapeutic properties. It shows when you look around yourself and see a carefully selected range of items that lift your spirits. It´s in the little things, and they can be even more exquisite than anything money can buy. The unique flower bouquet you created as an expression of your own personality, for example: it is unique in this world, and it has meaning to you. That no money in the world can buy. In the end, time is the ultimate luxury: it is priceless and can not be redeemed in any way. So spending that ressource on things, people and activities that make you happy (and enjoy it in the moment) is the true expression of luxury.

5. Embrace Sustainability and Mindfulness
Luxury has a lot of common ground with both sustainability and mindful living. If you choose to spend your money with intention and really only buy the things that make you happy and you intend to keep, sustainability will arise. As you care and maintain these things, you also develop the mindful attitude towards the things you choose to surround yourself with. That´s why it is so useful to select them with intention: luxuries are ones that you intend to keep.
6. Celebrate this very moment, right now!
Don‘t put off implementing luxury and enjoyment into your life. Start right now: pencil in one day in the upcoming week to put some luxury into your life. Keep that day just for yourself and bring some beauty into the time you spend on this earth. Be it a weekend or a staycation day: you deserve that extra addition of luxury and elegance, because it will elevate every single day that follows. Need some inspiration and how-to guides?
